Log cabin style of the architecture was introduced in America by the Swedes in 1638. The three versions of this style, one-room, saddle bag, and dogtrot, were constructed with notched log walls with simple floor plan, split cedar shingle roof nailed to half log roof rafters.

Roof structure consists of a ridge log and purling supports at mid span of the roof rafters. The log cabin was easy to build because it does not require an extra framework to hold up the walls. A stone fireplace is incorporated to this style of architecture with chimney of sticks lined with mud. There are an infinite number of log cabin variations, but the principal material, the log, remains the same. Log cabin technology has greatly advanced ever since its introduction. A second layer of wood framing, consist of wood studs and insulation has been added to a half round log structure in order to achieve a more weather resistance unit.
